Along with James Lord and Mark Fulton of World Athletics, Ricardo Berm&uacute;dez, manager of Telepac&iacute;fico and his team, are some of those responsible for the television success of the Cali 22 World Athletics Championship.
For 6 days, millions of spectators from all over the world enjoyed the largest sports festival in the history of Colombia, which had more than 1,500 athletes from 137 countries in action, who arrived at the 'Sultana del Valle' with the hope of consecrating themselves as the next great stars of world athletics. Today, a week after the end of the championship, we highlight the human talent and technological resources behind the broadcast of the sporting event that will go down in the history of Valle del Cauca and Colombia.
Under the direction of James Lord, director of Broadcast, and Mark Fulton, executive producer of World Athletics and World Athletics Productions, more than 150 people, including nationals and foreigners, were in charge of bringing to television the broadcast of the U20 World Championships, the event that presented to the world, among other athletes, the record holder of the 100 meters and called to be the next Usain Bolt, the young man from Botswana, Letsile Tebogo. A milestone that required the teamwork of World Athletics Productions, Deltatre, Media Pro, Seiko, Event Presentation and Telepac&iacute;fico.
"The Championships, due to its size, its importance, for what it means to have an event of international stature, forced us to have different technical standards and we worked for 6 months to get it ready on the date of August 1," said Ricardo Berm&uacute;dez, manager of Telepac&iacute;fico, who also highlighted the joint work that made it possible to integrate the set of technical requirements typical of top-level sporting events.

For the realization of a successful television broadcast, it required coordinated work that began 6 months ago with strategic meetings held between 17 people from Telepac&iacute;fico and 12 more from World Athletics, where they discussed the design, organization, coordination, and synchronization of the work that was to be developed in the first week of August.
"World Athletics Production directed the entire production and did all the technical design. We teamed up with them to complement all those requirements. Telepac&iacute;fico coordinated the implementation here in Colombia and Cali of the whole system in alliance with Media Pro, which was one of the main technical suppliers", said Berm&uacute;dez, affirming that, for the assembly and operation, the human team was extended to 90 people working for the success of the event.
In addition to human talent, it also required significant technological support, as 80% of the television equipment installed was brought from abroad, among them are lenses, cameras, encoders, matrices, controllers, integration systems, servers, and automated audio consoles.
Carlos Mar&iacute;n, television technician and member of the support team and technology support for special events of Telepac&iacute;fico, explained the location and function of the cameras distributed throughout the Pascual Guerrero Stadium to carry out the transmission.

"There were approximately 36 cameras, divided into 3 modalities. One modality corresponded to the track competitions, another focused on the pole vault, triple jump, and long jump events, and the other modality was arranged for the throws, high jump, and javelin."
In turn, he pointed out that the incoming information was distributed in three major centers: two mobile units and a transmission center inside the IBC (International Broadcast Centre) tent. A total of 18 cameras were assigned to the production and transmission center and the remaining 18 were divided between the two mobile units. 
Of the total of 36 cameras, approximately 20 were special cameras to capture details, mini-cameras that obtained much more eye-catching shots since some were at ground level, others were on the poles of the jumping competitions and there were also slow motion cameras that "captured very striking images of the athletes," said Carlos Mar&iacute;n.
In addition to the efforts made by WA, Telepac&iacute;fico, and Media Pro, there were Seiko, Deltatre, and Event Presentation. The first one was in charge of the technology behind the timing and scoring, providing the information through the data section and through the video signals necessary to superimpose the graphics of the stopwatches and times.
Deltatre, on the other hand, was in charge of managing the graphics in the visual section for the starlists, statistics, and competition results. While Event Presentation, in addition to feeding the information presented on the screens through a network implemented by EMCALI, also had under its responsibility the pre-recorded products intended to generate entertainment. "They generated the Championships show as such, the event as a spectacle," said Ricardo Berm&uacute;dez. 
John Carlos Hurtado Gamboa, Technical and Systems director of Telepac&iacute;fico and in charge of the technology section during the Championship, highlighted the work done in the television production of the Championships.
"It was great, spectacular. It was something very coordinated since a good interaction was achieved with people from different parts of the world. To have achieved this coordination to generate a technological infrastructure of such a high level is something very positive for Colombia, which shows that the country is ready for world-class events".

Hurtado Gamboa also emphasized how well received the broadcast was by local viewers and cybernauts. "We received many positive messages. People are not used to an event of such magnitude in a region like this one, especially in the high-quality conditions and state-of-the-art technology that was used. Seeing it in the United States or Europe is something normal, but here in Latin America, and especially in Colombia, we have never had the opportunity to offer this quality of production and transmission.
Finally, Ricardo Berm&uacute;dez, manager of Telepac&iacute;fico, spoke about the legacy that the Championship leaves to the region and Colombia.
"We learned that better things can always be achieved, we have the technical and human capacity to transcend the border. That we can dimension the work beyond the region, that we can reach other spheres. That is the vision that this project has left us with," he said.
Undoubtedly, the World Athletics U20 Championships Cali 22 not only left a sporting legacy but also a technological legacy that highlighted our region's ability to join the best teams in the world and stand out worldwide with a successful production.

Durante 6 d&iacute;as, millones de espectadores de todo el mundo disfrutaron de la fiesta deportiva m&aacute;s grande de la historia de Colombia que tuvo en acci&oacute;n a m&aacute;s de 1500 atletas de 137 pa&iacute;ses, quienes llegaron a la &lsquo;Sultana del Valle&rsquo; con la ilusi&oacute;n de consagrarse como las pr&oacute;ximas grandes estrellas del atletismo mundial. Hoy (13.06.22), a una semana de finalizado el Campeonato, es pertinente resaltar el talento humano y el recurso tecnol&oacute;gico detr&aacute;s de la transmisi&oacute;n del evento deportivo que pasar&aacute; a la historia del Valle del Cauca y Colombia.
Bajo el direccionamiento de James Lord, director de Broadcast y Mark Fulton, productor ejecutivo de World Athletics y World Athletics Productions, m&aacute;s de 150 personas entre nacionales y extranjeros, fueron los encargados de llevar a los televisores del mundo, la transmisi&oacute;n del Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo sub-20, el evento que present&oacute;, entre otros atletas, al plusmarquista de los 100 metros y llamado a ser el sucesor de Usain Bolt, el joven de 19 a&ntilde;os proveniente de Botswana, Letsile Tebogo. Un hito que requiri&oacute; del trabajo en equipo de World Athletics Productions, Deltatre, Media Pro, Seiko, Event Presentation y Telepac&iacute;fico.
&ldquo;El mundial por su dimensi&oacute;n, su importancia, por lo que implica tener un evento de talla internacional, nos oblig&oacute; a tener est&aacute;ndares t&eacute;cnicos diferentes y se trabaj&oacute; durante 6 meses para lograr tenerlo listo a la fecha del primero de agosto&rdquo;, se&ntilde;al&oacute; Ricardo Berm&uacute;dez, gerente de Telepac&iacute;fico, quien tambi&eacute;n resalt&oacute; el trabajo mancomunado que permit&iacute;a integrar todos los requerimientos t&eacute;cnicos propios de la transmisi&oacute;n de eventos deportivos de primer nivel.

Para la realizaci&oacute;n de una transmisi&oacute;n de televisi&oacute;n exitosa, se requiri&oacute; de un trabajo coordinado que inici&oacute; 6 meses atr&aacute;s con reuniones estrat&eacute;gicas sostenidas entre 17 personas de Telepac&iacute;fico y 12 m&aacute;s de World Athletics, en donde se discut&iacute;a el dise&ntilde;o, organizaci&oacute;n y sincronizaci&oacute;n del trabajo que estaba por desarrollarse en la primera semana de agosto.
&ldquo;World Athletics Production dirigi&oacute; toda la producci&oacute;n y realiz&oacute; todo el dise&ntilde;o t&eacute;cnico. Nosotros entramos a trabajar en equipo con ellos para complementar todos esos requerimientos. Telepac&iacute;fico coordin&oacute; la implementaci&oacute;n aqu&iacute; en Colombia y en Cali de todo ese sistema en alianza con Media Pro que fue uno de los principales proveedores t&eacute;cnicos&rdquo;, sostuvo Berm&uacute;dez, afirmando que, para el montaje y operaci&oacute;n, el equipo humano se extendi&oacute; hasta alcanzar la cifra de 90 personas trabajando en pro del &eacute;xito del evento.
Adem&aacute;s del talento humano, tambi&eacute;n se requiri&oacute; de un apoyo tecnol&oacute;gico importante, pues el 80% del equipo de televisi&oacute;n instalado fue tra&iacute;do desde el extranjero, entre ellos se destacan: lentes, c&aacute;maras, encoders, matrices, controladores, sistemas de integraci&oacute;n, servidores y consolas de audio automatizadas.
Carlos Mar&iacute;n, t&eacute;cnico en televisi&oacute;n y miembro del equipo de apoyo y soporte en tecnolog&iacute;a para eventos especiales de Telepac&iacute;fico, explic&oacute; la ubicaci&oacute;n y funci&oacute;n de las c&aacute;maras que fueron distribuidas en todo el Estadio Pascual Guerrero para llevar a cabo la transmisi&oacute;n.

&ldquo;Aproximadamente se cont&oacute; con 36 c&aacute;maras, divididas en 3 modalidades. Una modalidad correspondi&oacute; a las competencias de pista, otra se centr&oacute; en los eventos de salto con p&eacute;rtiga, salto triple, salto largo y la otra modalidad se dispuso para los lanzamientos, salto alto y jabalina.&rdquo;&nbsp;
A su vez, se&ntilde;al&oacute; que la informaci&oacute;n que llegaba se repart&iacute;a en tres grandes centros: dos unidades m&oacute;viles y un centro de transmisi&oacute;n en el interior de la carpa del IBC (International Broadcast Centre). Un total de 18 c&aacute;maras estaban asignadas al centro de producci&oacute;n y transmisi&oacute;n y los 18 restantes se divid&iacute;an entre las dos unidades m&oacute;viles.&nbsp;
Del total de las 36 c&aacute;maras, aproximadamente 20 eran especiales para capturar detalles, minic&aacute;maras que obten&iacute;an planos mucho m&aacute;s vistosos ya que algunas estaban a ras del suelo, otras se encontraban en los postes de las competencias de salto y tambi&eacute;n se cont&oacute; con c&aacute;maras de slow motion que &ldquo;capturaban im&aacute;genes muy impactantes de los atletas&rdquo;, precis&oacute; Carlos Mar&iacute;n.&nbsp;
Sumado a los esfuerzos realizados por WA, Telepac&iacute;fico y Media Pro, se encuentran Seiko, Deltatre y Event Presentation. El primero, se encargaba de la tecnolog&iacute;a detr&aacute;s del timing (cronometraje) y el scoring (puntuaci&oacute;n), suministrando la informaci&oacute;n a trav&eacute;s del apartado de data y a trav&eacute;s de las se&ntilde;ales de video necesarias para hacer la superposici&oacute;n de los gr&aacute;ficos de cron&oacute;metros y tiempos.&nbsp;
Deltatre, por su parte, se encarg&oacute; de manejar las gr&aacute;ficas de la parte visual en lo correspondiente a los starlists, estad&iacute;sticas y resultados de competencias. Mientras que Event Presentation, adem&aacute;s de alimentar la informaci&oacute;n presentada en las pantallas por medio de una red implementada por EMCALI, tambi&eacute;n ten&iacute;a bajo su responsabilidad los productos pregrabados destinados a generar entretenimiento. &ldquo;Ellos generaban el show del mundial como tal, el evento como un espect&aacute;culo&rdquo;, asegur&oacute; el gerente Ricardo Berm&uacute;dez.

&ldquo;Fue genial, espectacular. Fue algo muy coordinado ya que se logr&oacute; una buena interacci&oacute;n con personas de diferentes partes del mundo. Haber logrado esta coordinaci&oacute;n para generar una infraestructura tecnol&oacute;gica de tan alto nivel supone algo muy positivo para Colombia donde se demuestra que el pa&iacute;s est&aacute; para eventos de talla mundial&rdquo;.

Hurtado Gamboa, tambi&eacute;n hizo &eacute;nfasis en la buena acogida que tuvo la transmisi&oacute;n en los televidentes y cibernautas locales. &ldquo;Recibimos muchos mensajes positivos. La gente no est&aacute; acostumbrada a que en una regi&oacute;n como esta se brinde un evento de tal magnitud y sobre todo en las condiciones de alta calidad y tecnolog&iacute;a de vanguardia que se utiliz&oacute;. Verlo en Estados Unidos o en Europa es algo normal, pero ac&aacute; en Latinoam&eacute;rica, y especialmente en Colombia, nunca se hab&iacute;a tenido la oportunidad de brindar esta calidad de producci&oacute;n y transmisi&oacute;n&rdquo;.
Finalmente, Ricardo Berm&uacute;dez, gerente de Telepac&iacute;fico, destac&oacute; el legado que deja el Campeonato, a la regi&oacute;n y a Colombia.
&ldquo;Aprendimos que siempre se pueden alcanzar mejores cosas, tenemos la capacidad t&eacute;cnica y humana para trascender la frontera. Que se pueden dimensionar el trabajo m&aacute;s all&aacute; de la regi&oacute;n, que podemos alcanzar otras esferas. Esa es la visi&oacute;n que nos deja haber transmitido este proyecto&rdquo;, sostuvo.
Sin lugar a duda, el Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo sub-20 Cali 22, no solo dej&oacute; un legado deportivo, sino tambi&eacute;n un legado tecnol&oacute;gico que destac&oacute; a nuestra regi&oacute;n por su capacidad de sumarse a los mejores equipos del mundo y destacarse mundialmente con una exitosa producci&oacute;n.

Outside his home in Brovary, Ukraine, Artur Felfner looked to the skies in late February and saw a terrifying sight.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Russian bombs were dropping on all people in the area,&rdquo; says Felfner. &ldquo;The first day, I see Russian planes (dropping) bombs in my city &ndash; not (on) my home, but near my home.&rdquo;
Brovary is a city of about 100,000 inhabitants, an eastern suburb of the country&rsquo;s capital, Kyiv, and Felfner struggles to find the words when asked to describe what life was like there at the end of February and the start of March.&nbsp;
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s really not good,&rdquo; he says. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t think about sport in this time.&rdquo;
On 26 March, he left Ukraine and travelled to Portugal, where he was based for two months alongside other Ukrainian athletes like Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk and Yaroslava Mahuchikh. In May Felfner relocated to Finland, where he spent the next two months with his coach, Rymko Vyacheslav, and trained alongside Finnish thrower Janne Laspa, who had beaten Felfner to gold by just 14cm at last year&rsquo;s World Athletics U20 Championships in Nairobi.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I have to say thank you so much to Finland,&rdquo; says Felfner. &ldquo;The conditions there were so good. And I did it.&rdquo;
By &lsquo;did it&rsquo;, he means he became a world U20 champion, despite all he faced this year.

Granted, Felfner was the overwhelming favourite for men&rsquo;s javelin gold at the&nbsp;World Athletics U20 Championships Cali 22, but that&rsquo;s not to say it came easy. He went into the event as the only thrower who&rsquo;d ever gone beyond the 80-metre mark, launching the spear 84.32m in Samorin, Slovakia, in June, moving him to fourth on the world U20 all-time list.&nbsp;
But going to Cali he had a niggle in his foot and, given the Ukrainian team did not have a physio there, Felfner&rsquo;s coach asked for help from the Irish team that was sharing their hotel. The Irish team physiotherapist, John Fagan, treated Felfner&rsquo;s injury and taped his foot ahead of the qualification round and final.
The evening of his final last Friday (5), Felfner had one last issue to contend with: an hour-long delay due to a thunderstorm.&nbsp;
When he eventually took to the runway, he grabbed the lead in the opening round with a 76.20m throw, but was soon overtaken by Germany&rsquo;s Max Dehning, who threw 77.24m in the second round. It took Felfner until the fifth round to better that, but his 79.36m there put the competition to bed.&nbsp;
Not that he was overly impressed by his effort.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The result is not good for me, I need over 80 metres,&rdquo; he said, draped in a Ukrainian flag, the symbolism of his victory not lost on him. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s really important for me, yes. A lot of guys in Ukraine tonight &ndash; my family, my friends &ndash; see this competition on (the) live stream and I&rsquo;m so happy about that medal.&rdquo;
During the first few months of the war, his mother and brother relocated to Bulgaria, but they have since returned to Brovary, and Felfner hopes to join them in September. But first, he&rsquo;s got another championship looming: next week&rsquo;s Europeans in Munich. Felfner is ranked ninth in the men&rsquo;s javelin field, and his goal is simple.&nbsp;
&ldquo;If I throw qualification, I&rsquo;ll be really happy,&rdquo; he says.&nbsp;
For many years, the javelin has been the world around which his life has orbited. On the inside of Felfner&rsquo;s right wrist, there&rsquo;s a tattoo of a figure throwing a spear, which he had inked there at the age of 15, shortly after he first surpassed the 70-metre barrier.&nbsp;

He was eight when he first tried the event, picking it up from his father, an athletics coach. &ldquo;But he&rsquo;s not good with technique,&rdquo; says Felfner.&nbsp;
In his early teens, Felfner enrolled in a sports school and began to work with Vyacheslav, his current coach. His big breakthrough came in 2019, when he threw 79.37m at an international match event in Kyiv. He was just 15 at the time. The following year, he improved to 82.08m and in 2021 he won European U20 gold and world U20 silver.
When it comes to throwing, his role model is two-time Olympic champion Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway, whose technique he has studied extensively, alongside that of world record-holder Jan Zelezny. In June, Felfner edged ahead of Thorkildsen on the world U20 all-time list with 84.32m, and only three athletes are now ahead of him on that list.&nbsp;
Two of them &ndash; India&rsquo;s Neeraj Chopra and Trinidad and Tobago&rsquo;s Keshorn Walcott &ndash; went on to become Olympic champions, but when Felfner looks at the road ahead, he&rsquo;s taking it steady. He has three main goals next year: to throw over 85 metres, to qualify for the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23, and to take gold at the European U23 Championships in Espoo, Finland.&nbsp;
But, more immediately, he&rsquo;s looking forward to something else: his return to Brovary next month to recommence his studies and reunite with his family.&nbsp;
And as he notes, most importantly of all: &ldquo;They are safe.&rdquo;&nbsp;

The press conference was attended by athletes Letsile Tebogo (Botswana) and Valentina Barrios (Colombia), in addition to the president of the local organizing committee, Ramiro Varela and the CEO of World Athletics, Jon Ridgeon, who began the conference with a short summary of what&nbsp; was the championship: "Cali once again emerged as a cradle of champions, as in 2015 when we saw local and world stars make their marks for the first time. Today, it has again been the cradle of a great group of emerging stars. I believe that excellence in the sport can start here in Cali." He also emphasized the large number of young journalists who took part in the media development plan: "The media development program with these 43 journalists was a success and we want to do the same with young coaches. We hope that in the future this will be a reality in every championship".

Jon Ridgeon mentioned the attendance figures during the championship where close to 10,000 people visited the Pascual on each day of competition, but what was really important was to observe the presence of children and pre-university youth: "It is a great opportunity to generate a sports legacy in schools and universities". He pointed out.
Ramiro Varela, president of the LOC, gave his appreciation of the championship, emphasizing the facilities and infrastructure of the venue: "A very fast track with good facilities generates good sports results like the ones we have just seen". He also assured to be very motivated to initiate the pertinent procedures and studies to make Cali the sports venue for the 2029 World Senior Championships.

In response to these statements, WA's CEO expressed his support for a possible candidacy: "I will confirm by saying that from WA we would fully support Cali. The volunteers and organization has been very good. It has an excellent stadium and a very fast track that facilitates good performances. I like that Colombia can have the ambition to achieve a championship for the seniors and this year went very well so it can lead them to organize it without any problem. We would love to receive a proposal from Cali for the future. As for the process, we will be launching it at the end of this year to define the venues for 2027 and 2029. There is not much time to lose so they should hurry."
Finally, Ridgeon referred to sports performance with a telling phrase: "The impressions have been incredibly positive. If I were an older athlete it would scare me to see these younger kids so talented. The youngsters who competed in Cali may be the future world champions in 2023."

Culmin&oacute; el mundial de atletismo sub 20 Cali 2022 y los r&eacute;cords, las experiencias, las historias, un escenario fant&aacute;stico y una geograf&iacute;a propicia para el deporte, fueron los factores que m&aacute;s salieron a relucir en la rueda de prensa que se llev&oacute; a cabo antes de la &uacute;ltima jornada de competencias que cont&oacute; con la presencia de los atletas Letsile Tebogo (Botswana) y Valentina Barrios (Colombia), adem&aacute;s del presidente del comit&eacute; organizador local, Ramiro Varela y el CEO de World Athletics, Jon Ridgeon.
El ex atleta brit&aacute;nico abri&oacute; la conferencia con un corto resumen de lo que para &eacute;l fue el campeonato: &ldquo;Cali una vez m&aacute;s emergi&oacute; como una cuna de campeones, al igual que en 2015 cuando vimos a estrellas locales y mundiales hacer sus marcas por primera vez y hoy la historia se repite. Creo que la excelencia en el deporte puede empezar aqu&iacute; en Cali&rdquo;. Tambi&eacute;n hizo &eacute;nfasis en la gran cantidad de j&oacute;venes periodistas que hicieron parte del plan de desarrollo de medios: &ldquo;Fue un &eacute;xito el programa de desarrollo de medios con estos 43 periodistas y queremos hacer lo mismo con entrenadores j&oacute;venes. Esperamos que en el futuro esto sea una realidad en cada campeonato&rdquo;.

Jon Ridgeon mencion&oacute; adem&aacute;s las cifras de asistencia donde cerca de 10.000 personas visitaron el Pascual en cada d&iacute;a de competencia e hizo hincapi&eacute; en el hecho de observar la presencia de ni&ntilde;os y j&oacute;venes pre universitarios: &ldquo;Es una gran oportunidad para generar un legado deportivo en escuelas y universidades&rdquo;. Puntualiz&oacute;.
Ramiro Varela, presidente del LOC, di&oacute; su apreciaci&oacute;n sobre el campeonato enfatizando en las instalaciones e infraestructura del escenario deportivo: &ldquo;Una pista muy r&aacute;pida con buenas instalaciones genera unos buenos resultados deportivos como los que acabamos de ver&rdquo;. Tambi&eacute;n asegur&oacute; estar muy motivado por iniciar los tr&aacute;mites y estudios pertinentes para conseguir que Cali sea la sede deportiva del mundial de mayores del 2029.

Frente a estas declaraciones, el CEO de WA expres&oacute; su apoyo a una posible candidatura: &ldquo;Confirmare diciendo que desde WA apoyar&iacute;amos completamente a Cali. Los voluntarios y la organizaci&oacute;n ha sido muy buena. Cuenta con un excelente estadio y una pista muy r&aacute;pida que facilita buenos rendimientos. Me gusta que Colombia pueda tener la ambici&oacute;n de lograr un campeonato para los mayores y este a&ntilde;o transcurri&oacute; muy bien por lo que puede llevarlos a organizarlo sin ning&uacute;n problema. Nos encantar&iacute;a recibir una propuesta de Cali para el futuro. En cuanto al proceso, lo estaremos lanzando al final de este a&ntilde;o para definir las sedes de 2027 y 2029. No hay mucho tiempo para perder as&iacute; que deben apurarse&rdquo;.
Finalmente, Ridgeon se refiri&oacute; al rendimiento deportivo con una frase contundente: &ldquo;Las impresiones han sido incre&iacute;blemente positivas. Si fuera un atleta mayor me asustar&iacute;a ver a estos chicos menores tan talentosos. Los j&oacute;venes que compitieron en Cali pueden ser los futuros campeones mundiales en 2023&rdquo;.

&ldquo;Califico al campeonato de un gran &eacute;xito y excelencia en cuanto a la organizaci&oacute;n de la competencia y en las actuaciones de los atletas muchos de pa&iacute;ses peque&ntilde;os y subdesarrollados o en v&iacute;a de desarrollo.&rdquo; menciona Lopez para destacar igualmente la participaci&oacute;n de delegaciones que representan a pa&iacute;ses en subdesarrollo, un factor qur impulsa el desarrollo deportivo en este tipo de lugares con necesidades especiales.
En adici&oacute;n a esto, el hecho de que este a&ntilde;o se hayan realizado estas justas atl&eacute;ticas juveniles en tereitorio colombiano, y que la pr&oacute;xima edici&oacute;n est&eacute; planeada en realizarse en Lima, Per&uacute;, dice mucho con respecto al inter&eacute;s de World Athletics en promocionar el deporte multidisciplinario en esta regi&oacute;n.

&ldquo;se cultiva y se populariza la afici&oacute;n del Atletismo en nuestro pa&iacute;ses y los ni&ntilde;os y ni&ntilde;as se enamoran y practican el mismo ya que es un deporte donde cualquier individuo puede practicar por la diversificaci&oacute;n del mismo. Adem&aacute;s, ayuda al turismo deportivo y al turismo en general.&rdquo; comenta quien tambi&eacute;n ha sido entrenador de atletismo en m&uacute;ltiples ocasiones y considera importante impulsar este deporte entre los mas j&oacute;venes. 
&ldquo;Con todas las personas desde el amigo y l&iacute;der del Atletismo, Sebasti&aacute;n Coe hasta turistas, padres, entrenadores de USA que est&aacute;n aqu&iacute; reclutando, atletas y entrenadores de la delegaciones participantes, todos me han manifestado la gran experiencia que han vivido en Cali y expres&aacute;ndose positivamente de todos los aspectos del campeonato. Quiero destacar la magn&iacute;fica producci&oacute;n de Telepac&iacute;fico que han hecho un trabajo excepcional y una gran calidad de primera clase. No recuerdo haber visto una transmisi&oacute;n tan excelente y llevo m&aacute;s de seis d&eacute;cadas dedicadas a este deporte en muchas y diferentes capacidades.&rdquo; 
Por otro lado, ha reconocido el estadio Ol&iacute;mpico Pascual Guerrero como un escenario de alt&iacute;sima calidad para realizar inclusive un campeonato de mayores:

Former athlete who represented Puerto Rico Victor Lopez, current member of the board of World Athletics and the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee, talks about the good administration carried out in Cali for the execution of the World U20 Athletics Championships.
"I qualify the championship as a great success and excellence in terms of the organization of the competition and in the performances of the athletes, many of them from small and underdeveloped or developing countries," said Lopez, also highlighting the participation of delegations representing underdeveloped countries, a factor that boosts sports development in this type of places with special needs. 
In addition to this, the fact that this year these youth athletic events have been held in Colombian territory, and that the next edition is planned to be held in Lima, Peru, says a lot about the interest of World Athletics in promoting multidisciplinary sports in this region.

On the other hand, he has recognized the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium as a stage of the highest quality to hold even a senior championship: 
"Definitely the Pascual Guerrero stadium could be the stage for a senior world cup. Of course, it will have to be modernized in many areas, but the base is definitely there and it would be a wonderful scenario".

Ximena Restrepo paralyzed the country by winning the bronze medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. Thirty years later, her legacy is still alive in young people who wish to follow in her footsteps.
On August 5, 1995, Ximena Restrepo began to write the history of Colombian athletics. With a time of 49.64 seconds, the young athlete from Antioquia won the bronze medal in the 400 meters, becoming Colombia's first Olympic medalist in athletics. That third place in Barcelona was the first step that Caterine Ibarg&uuml;en and Anthony Zambrano later followed and hopes to continue in the 44 young Colombians who participated in the U20 World Championship held in Cali. 
"For Colombia, having done a World Championships in athletics is a way to raise awareness of the sport and above all to motivate the youth. It also helps the country and Cali to be known through sport," said Ximena, who in 2019 made history again, this time, from the sports leadership, by becoming the first woman vice president of World Athletics, the highest world athletics body, formerly known as IAAF.
Similarly, the current vice-president of World Athletics recognizes that holding a world championship in Latin American cities is an opportunity for people, both children, and adults, to learn about track and field and practice physical activity. "Sport is always an example to motivate and entertain." 
Such was the case of the World Athletics U20 Championship Cali 22, where hundreds of young students attended the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium during 6 days of competitions to support and applaud the future stars of the sport. 
In addition to learning about the different disciplines of track and field, finding in them new possibilities for a possible sporting future in a stadium that provides the guarantees to enjoy a show worthy of the best sports venues and where two U20 world records were broken, 14 championship records, among others.
"The Pascual Guerrero is an excellent venue," said Restrepo when analyzing the possibility of the San Fernandino and Cali being chosen to host the senior championship in 2029. "A competition like a senior world championship could be held there, however, it is important to take into account aspects such as hotels, security and commitment of the country. Cali has the infrastructure, we have to continue working on the other areas that are part of the postulation".

Finally, Ximena sent a message to the young people who today dream of representing Colombia in an Olympic Games. 
"There really is no science, in my opinion, beyond talent, there is work, dedication, perseverance, being able to overcome difficult moments such as injuries, but the main thing is that you have to work, which translates into training and training." 
For now, the 44 youngsters who represented the country at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, will continue working every day to, hopefully, be able to represent the tricolor in a senior world championship, again at home.

Un 5 de agosto de 1995 Ximena Restrepo empez&oacute; a escribir la historia del atletismo colombiano. Con un tiempo de 49.64 segundos, la joven antioque&ntilde;a se colg&oacute; la medalla de bronce en la prueba de los 400 metros, convirti&eacute;ndose en la primera medallista ol&iacute;mpica de Colombia en el atletismo. Ese tercer lugar en Barcelona fueron los primeros pinitos que posteriormente siguieron Caterine Ibarg&uuml;en y Anthony Zambrano y que espera continuar en los 44 j&oacute;venes colombianos que participaron del Campeonato Mundial sub-20 realizado en Cali.
&ldquo;Para Colombia, haber hecho un mundial de atletismo es una manera de dar a conocer el deporte y sobre todo de motivar a la juventud. Tambi&eacute;n ayuda a que el pa&iacute;s y Cali sean conocidos a trav&eacute;s del deporte&rdquo;, asegur&oacute; Ximena, quien en 2019 volvi&oacute; a hacer historia, esta vez, desde la dirigencia deportiva, al convertirse en la primera mujer vicepresidenta de World Athletics, el m&aacute;ximo ente mundial del atletismo, antiguamente conocido como IAAF.
De igual forma, la hoy vicepresidenta de World Athletics, reconoce que realizar un mundial en las ciudades de Latinoam&eacute;rica es una oportunidad para que las personas, ni&ntilde;os y adultos, conozcan de atletismo y practiquen actividad f&iacute;sica. &ldquo;Siempre el deporte es un ejemplo a seguir para motivar y entretener&rdquo;. 
As&iacute; fue el caso del Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo sub-20 Cali 22, donde centenares de j&oacute;venes estudiantes asistieron al estadio Ol&iacute;mpico Pascual Guerrero durante 6 d&iacute;as de competencias para apoyar y aplaudir a las futuras estrellas del deporte. 
Adem&aacute;s de conocer las diferentes disciplinas del atletismo, encontrando en ellas nuevas posibilidades para un posible futuro deportivo en un estadio que brinda las garant&iacute;as para disfrutar de un espect&aacute;culo digno de los mejores escenarios deportivos y donde adem&aacute;s se rompieron 2 r&eacute;cords mundiales sub-20, 14 r&eacute;cords de campeonato, entre otros.
&ldquo;El Pascual Guerrero es un escenario excelente&rdquo;, sostuvo Restrepo al analizar la posibilidad de que el San Fernandino y Cali sean elegidos la sede del campeonato de mayores en 2029. &ldquo;Se podr&iacute;a realizar una competencia como un campeonato mundial all&iacute;, sin embargo, es importante tener en cuenta aspectos como la hoteler&iacute;a, seguridad y compromiso del pa&iacute;s. Cali tienen la infraestructura, hay que seguir trabajando en las otras &aacute;reas que son parte de la postulaci&oacute;n&rdquo;.

&ldquo;Realmente no hay ninguna ciencia, en mi opini&oacute;n, m&aacute;s all&aacute; del talento, est&aacute; el trabajo, la dedici&oacute;n, la perseverancia, el ser capaz de sobreponerse de momentos dif&iacute;ciles como las lesiones, pero lo principal es que hay que trabajar, que se traduce en entrenar y entrenar&rdquo;.

These were the achievements obtained by the Latin American representatives in the Under 20 World Athletics Championship Cali 22, an event of great magnitude and development thanks to the good management carried out from the capital of Valle del Cauca.&nbsp;
The Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium was the right place for Colombians, Brazilians, Cubans, Mexicans, Uruguayans and Latinos in general, to celebrate victories of high caliber in the framework of an event of international stature, dedicated to the youth, who begin their professional careers stepping on one of the best sporting venues in the world. 
In first place was Mexico's Karla Ximena Serrano, who was able to maintain a smart pace in the final of the women's 10,000 meter race and be the first to cross the finish line. The 18-year-old Mexican girl won the gold medal with a time of 46:24.35 minutes, her best time of the season. 
"It is a great emotion because I felt the support of all the Latinos in the stands and it is a pride for me to give this victory to all of Mexico and Latin America", said the U20 world champion in reference to the atmosphere in the stadium. 
On the other hand, one of the representatives of the Caribbean region, the Cuban Alejandro Parada, experienced his first world experience winning the silver medal in the long jump. In addition, the 18-year-old competed vehemently and registered an excellent mark of 7.91 meters.

"Well, the stadium is magnificent. With the organization that I have seen and experienced, a senior world championship could be held here in Cali," said Parada, referring to the quality of the infrastructure and organization offered in the Colombian city. 
Of course, it is worth highlighting the performance of the athlete Natalia Linares, who ratified her profile as a medal aspirant by winning silver in the women's long jump. The 19-year-old athlete from the coastal region made the Pascual Guerrero stands vibrate when she jumped a distance of 6.59 meters. 
"The emotion I felt at that moment, in each and every one of the jumps, was something magical. Really, Cali, a sports city, should continue to be like this and they should bring more world championships to Cali'', said Linares from Valledupar, amidst a gesture of emotion and happiness for having competed with the support of the Colombian public. 
Finally, there was also a Brazilian dose in the World Cup medal count, as Gabriel Luiz Boza won the bronze medal in the long jump. The 19-year-old athlete broke his best mark of the season by registering a distance of 7.90 meters in his competitive performance.

"The structure of the stadium is perfect, I had already competed last year at the Pan American Games here in Cali, I always liked the track. I am sure that if other competitions come here, they will be well received" commented the South American athlete, highlighting the quality of the sports venue for the U20 World Cup Cali 22.

We will have a wonderful stadium for competition, prepared to receive more than 1500 athletes from all continents &ndash; as we have previously done for the 2015 World Athletics U18 Championships &ndash; in a cultural, technological, athletic and social environment.
